Ways To Get Better Sleep

You can’t go through a day without sleeping but for some people, their sleep is so unrestful that it may feel as if they’re lacking it altogether. How can you practice better sleep hygiene to start your day on the right foot? Here are a few tips.

  • TRY TO USE YOUR BED FOR SLEEPING ONLY.

    • It can be easy to scroll through your phone, check your emails, watch tv and even eat in your bed. When you wake up in the morning, try to wait until your feet hit the ground and you’ve gotten up and stretched before picking up your phone. Want to challenge yourself? Do your morning routine before checking your phone!

    • Unless you live in a studio, do yourself a favor and stay out of your bedroom! Kick up your feet anywhere else but keep your bed and the room it’s in as a place of peace and refuge, not a place where you introduce work and food.

    • If you do live in a studio, try to keep your business on the sofa or chairs.

  • MINIMIZE LIGHT AND NOISE.

    • Close all your blinds, turn off all the lights and if you can, keep the tv out of your sleeping chamber. Remember, you want to slip into sleep, not get distracted by every little thing.

  • ESTABLISH A NIGHTTIME ROUTINE.

    • You may not know exactly when you plan to go to bed but before you get into bed, give yourself a few things to do. Start with tidying up around the house.

    • Then, whether you shower before bed or when you wake up, consider a skin care routine. Some people don’t know but a nighttime skin care routine should be different from a morning routine. Maybe you try a different toner, use a night serum or sit in your steamy bathroom with lavender and eucalyptus. You could even do a face mask.

    • Do some light stretching, meditation or yoga.

    • Finally, consider sitting in a chair (whether in your bedroom or outside of it) and pick up something physical to read. It can be a magazine, a newspaper or a book. Doesn’t matter, as long as you can hold it and flip pages.

Maybe you workout, eat a certain food or listen to a great soundtrack of lullabies.

There are so many more things that people can do to set their bodies up for good sleep but these are a few of my favorites.
